September Resolutions Post 2016

September Resolutions

Admit it…you like so many people have made this sweeping statement more times than you care to remember – ‘Today/This week/This month/This year, I’ll get organised!’ And as our changeable Irish summer draws to a close, the mammoth task of getting organised for September with school’s reopening and business activity generally increasing can seem very daunting. Nowadays, staying on top of your schedule at all times is an absolute must and having the right tools at your fingertips can be a tremendous help. Here are some suggestions from the Gray Office Park team.

Apps – The big 5
When it comes to selecting apps that will best support your daily schedule and enhance the overall management of your business, important things to consider are ease of use, aesthetics ( is the user interface clean, simple and uncluttered), user sharing capabilities, cross platform availability and power features such as customizable views or integrations with management apps. Below is a small selection of some of the most popular scheduling/file sharing apps used by businesses to stay focused and on track :

1. Google Calendar
Available on the web as well as to Android and iOS users, Google Calendar lets you keep multiple calendars such as your work, personal and holiday calendars in one place by using your existing Google account. You can also identify your individual calendars at glance with greater ease thanks to the colour coding offered by Google Calendar. These features are the tip of the Google Calendar iceberg which also happens to be FREE…and we love free stuff!!!
2. Apple Calendar
Formerly known as iCal, Apple Calendar is the default calendar for OS X and iOS meaning you can keep your calendar up to date across all your Apple devices and through iCloud as long as you set up Apple Calendar to sync through iCloud. If you are a Mac, iPhone or iPad user, you’ll be delighted to hear that Apple Calendar is free.
3. Microsoft Outlook
In addition to being a calendar app, Microsoft Outlook also works as a personal information manager (PIM). Whilst the mobile app combines your calendar with e-mail, the desktop app takes it further giving you a unified view of your calendar, e-mail, notes, tasks and contacts. From a team perspective, team members can easily view each other’s calendars, manage other people’s calendars and subscribe to other calendars thanks to Exchange Server accounts. Other nifty features include the ability to drag and drop an e-mail into the Outlook calendar icon and turn it into an appointment. If you like or need to have everything in one place, this is a great all in one productivity tool to use.

4. Dropbox

Although there are a wealth of apps that allow you to transfer content from your computer to other devices, Dropbox is free and easier to use. With the Dropbox app you can access and share important files on the go.
5. Evernote
With Evernote you can capture all your ideas, thoughts and images in many different ways including voice and notes. You can even record your meetings, interviews, speeches and ideas, create lists, add voice or text attachments as well as share your files.

The Virtual Office Effect

In a world dominated by the digital and virtual, there is still a very large demand and preference for the personal touch offered by an in house receptionist. You may not have the budget for your own office space and on-site receptionist, but the good news is, there is a way around this.
Virtual offices and assistants are gaining popularity as they allow you the ability to keep your business at home or on the road without the expense of renting an office space and paying a dedicated receptionist.
